Ducati servicing
So the new (to me) Monster 750 is due to arrive tomorrow, and I want to book it in for a belt change / general service before I start using it properly, just wondering if anyone has anywhere to recommend to get the work done?
Nearer to wigan the better.
Cheers

Re: Ducati servicing
Out of curiosity, what intervals are you supposed to change them on the 750? In my owners Manual (for the 600), it stated every two years or 12,000km. That said, i plan to sort mine, they're currently at 18 months old. I've inspected them and all seems well and is within tolerences, but then again, they were only done 700 miles ago....
Re: Ducati servicing
Do your belts yourself. They are an absolute doodle don't know why people worry about them. So so simple to do

Re: Ducati servicing
I might well.do them myself just think if I'm booking it in for a service will get them done at the same time.
Not sure on intervals pete, probably the same as the 600 tbh

Re: Ducati servicing
I'm of the same mind here, Ducati Manchester quoted around £200+vat when I popped in the other day, yet a pair of genuine OEM belts only cost £40...and as you say, it seems a simple enough job.Rich365 wrote:Do your belts yourself. Re: Ducati servicing
With regards to belts im sure ducati set the tension with a frequency meter.
Guess its up to you if you feel happy guessing it?
We used them on belt drives and they are a pretty important bit of kit if you want to do it correctly.
Jimmy - maybe you have one at work?

Re: Ducati servicing
Haynes market one of them actually. And there are a few other ways of making sure its all correct (so I have been told, not tried any yet) but it's whatever you're comfortable with I suppose. Currently talking to a monster owner who only replaces his every 4 years and the bike is on 64k!lee wrote:With regards to belts im sure ducati set the tension with a frequency meter.

Re: Ducati servicing
I know for a fact that most Ducati mechanics use the Allen key method of tensioning them and not the frequency meter. I know cos I used to be one of them. The meters gather dust in tool box but when quoting for the job it was always the justification for the extreme price. even cam locking pins can just be 6mm drill bits
Re: Ducati servicing
By the way if anyone wants to do there own belts you can borrow my crank turning tool and locking pins makes it even easier
