Helicoil/Inserts?

Post by J..R » 01 Jun 2018, 16:01

Hello,

Just a quick one, does anyone know of any mobile Helicoil/Insert fitters in the Northwest?

Had a slight leak from the Oil Sump on the Intruder and turns out the first two/three threads have snapped on the insert.

The original thread looks ok, just can see where its gone in the photo below

Many thanks in advance.

John

Not a clue if he’ll do mobile but MW racing (Mike Ward) in Rainford sorted mine a few years back.

I’d do it for you but my kit only goes up to M12 sorry

Hello,

Thanks for the offer, I managed to get it sorted on Monday at a place in Widnes, and so far (touch wood) there's been no problems with it!

I got myself a big kit after replacing broken and sheered clutch spring bolts on FatBobs bandit a few years back, simple idea that works oh so well

Used loads over the years but tbh not a fan.
They are ok for a quick repair but prefer the solid self tapping type.

Where sella them? Never seen them, look like a well better idea of there is enough material to allow it.

We get ours from a local engineering company.

Found this place online though - http://www.theinsertcompany.com/steel_s ... nserts.php

If you do use these make sure you don’t suffer from dissimilar metal issues, i.e. stainless inserts in mild steel will weld itself together over time.
