Just secured next build xj600

Post by Stumoores » 27 Mar 2018, 22:30

I've purchased an 11000mile 1989 xj600. 12 months mot. New tyres the lot. I've been after one for at least 4 years to make my dream cafe racer in a homage to the Oberdan Bezzi designed Continental Circus.
I can't wait to get cracking

Will be watching this, can't wait to see the end result. Do you ever consider taking on other peoples projects for payment?

I'm gonna retire in 3 years and building bikes will be my go to past time. I've always made handsomely on the deals if you don't charge for labour. I've never been offered any commissions buf I suppose I would if the right one came up. Cheers for the encouragement.

Having been retired almost three years now myself I think it’s good that you have a plan for what you’re going to do once you finish work as I did.
From seeing some of your previous posts I’m sure you’ll do a nice job with this one.

Cx500. The first cut is the deepest as they say. I think this one may be the one tho. I've been after the right donor for yonks. 11000 mile bike with 12 months MOT. It may however turn out to be a 2 year build due to a pending new year house move nearer to Manchester. For which I have only one prerequisite..... huge mancave with wall to wall snap on. Ha ha

You got photos of the CX?

Ha, sounds like a good (but pricy) plan

I picked up the xj yesterday from Sheffield Full service history with every receipt and MOT from new. The fella I bought it off had a next door neighbour who was a dab hand with an English wheel and had a conservatory full of jaw dropping race bikes. The highlight of which was a jawa. He reckoned there was only 3 in the world and the other 2 were in museums. The road conditions for ride back over Woodhead were terrible. I was up in the clouds until Tintwistle !
I'm gonna take a few pictures and muse over the old receipts before the teardown.
