I hate chains on bikes.
Fkin pain having to maintain them.

If funds allow id like to change bikes next year. And the following are on my list.

Bmw
K1300s
K1300r
K1300gt
R1200rt (2010 ish)

Yam super teneré

Triumph explorer

So anyone got any opinions?
Dave / cj must have owned or ridden most of the bmw's

Wow that escalated quickly ! Chain lube review to shafty wannabe in 24hrs. Makes sense for a year round biker like your good self tho

All good bikes on that list lee . I'm not a big fan off the 1300 gt, but can be purchased for decent money now .

The 1300 s and r are brill, both discontinued from new so secondhand values will hold . The RT is ace too, it all depends what your using the bike for to be honest.

Have fun trying them out

I loved the K12s I had... Had an early blue/ white one, and a later bumblebee one. I never gelled with the K13s...

I've never had a shaft mechanical issue with any of them.

In fact of the approx 100,000 I've done on various beemers, only an early GS had to have a clutch seal replaced( under warranty) and the K12s had a faulty injector. Just service them regularly, and ride them.

I have barely any mechanical skills so reliability is a key factor for me. The current RT performs it's touring role exceptionally. I'm sure the twin cam version is pretty much on a par albeit a little down on power from the new water cooled engine. The main issue with the RT is its only a few steps cooler than a Guzzi.

I await with "baited" breath for a disparaging reply from our Guzzi riding God :)

Following shoulder surgery and not being able to lift my arm more than 70 degrees; I think it may be time I progressed to a more relaxed riding position and have been eyeing up the BMW R1200GS Adventure.

I'd choose the adventure because of the huge fuel tank, as my commute will be 82 miles from April.
I also loved the heated grips on my old BMW R1100S and look forward to creature comforts.
Unfortunately output shaft bearing failure on the R1100S left a sour taste in my mouth, so I'll be investigating an extended warranty when the time is right.
