welding an exhaust?

Post by keith powell » 25 Feb 2016, 21:30

Does anyone have time to help me?
I have my bike back from being stolen and being run ragged. I am sourcing bits, and I know it's only a 125 but were close.
The exhaust bracket has been damaged (amongst a lot of other things) but the exhaust seems ok.
At 90 quid i cant replace it but thought a weld to repair damage could work?

So I have not welded anything like this? Does anyone have time to help me see if this can be done?

Thank you.

Keith

Not got a welder, but a close up pic' might bring forth alternative options.

I've welded downpipes a big repair on a 600 and both silencers on the 1100 although not the pritiest thing in the world it held worked passed mot only thing I suggest is don't have welder too high or it will just blow a bigger hole and a smudger tip them stainless steel spoons in the drawer or good for big holes lol

Not sure if Joe Lee is still a member of NWB, and he's a welder by trade. Think he lives Huyton way, towards Liverpool.

Anyone still in contact with Joe?

tried posting pics, went a bit weird??
Only the bracket is part of the outer skin of the shell. So it has made a hole,
but seems to all fit just need to be knocked back into the shape and sealed?

Ill still try to post pics, :)

These are the uncleaned exhaust. There has been a lot of mud removed from the bike and stuff but I've not touched the exhaust, as I want to make sure I don't do more damage than good.

Any suggestions as to how prepare the area for welding muchly appreciated. If the weld fails it could mean the difference between scrapping the bike and moving on to the next bit.

Hi all,

I'll just ask one more time. Only I was offered some help but then I haven't heard anything since?

Does anyone have some time to help me weld a bracket back onto an exhaust?

I am happy to travel, it doesn't have to be at mine.

Thanks guys. Im eager to try to get the machine back up and running after it was stolen.

Lee, its a matter of money, Im a care worker on limited pay, and they cost a lot more than I can afford. I will have other pieces to pay for that will not be able to be sorted as easily. So saving what I can to pay for those.
I have already had to pay for a new bike, up the insurance, extra security measures, and the recovery of the old bike the Police recovered and then gave to the robbing bastards Mansfield group. About £1400 so far.
If I can recover anything from the old bike then it will be worth it to me bit by bit.
I didnt ask for some scumbag to take it.

If there isn't anyone who can help me then so be it.
But I am not in a position to bale out money hand over fist to see if it works.
I will have to wait till May 12th to see if theres any compo (which i doubt), I just merely asked is anyone able to help?
If not, I'll have to wait and find another way. I just thought there might be someone who want to practice a bit of welding and do me a favour.

Keith
