Insurance claim question

Post by SMUDGER » 13 Jan 2016, 08:51

This morning I received a debt collection email from my car insurance from last car..
Point 1 I crashed the car in Oct 2014
Point 2 insurance company took car and declared written off 2014
Point 3 insurance company paid out minus excess (never get a high excess ffs) December 2014
Now I paid my premiums upuntil they payed out. I am on the understanding when a claim is settled and insurance company takes ownership of car that's it for insurance or am I wrong???

I was under the impression the whole years premium must be paid in full but surely it should have been deducted from the settlement..

Unless you asked for it to be deducted from the settlement it is still your premium to pay, therefore you have to pay the whole year.

If you took the monthly payment option then you still have to pay the full premium.
Are there any other fees added for the debt?

Write to the isurance firm asking for clarification on what needs to be paid and why. send a copy of the letter to the collection company stating you are putting it into dispute.

Also state that the DD is still active and hasn't been collected since above.

That alone should get you out of it. Just had similar shit with the DVLA only i cancelled it because i didn't have the bike anymore and paid an extra month. 6 months later they came after me for non payment of tax because the V5 exchange was delayed, their fault.
Said if i hadn't have cancelled the DD i would have gotten a refund.

NB if you have legal cover on any other insurance, car, home, health, call them and ask for advice and/or assistance, that IS what you pay for, its bot specifically for the insurance premium it was added too

Good luck
