Thanks.

525d is the best blend of performance and economy. 535d is just luurrrrrrrvely :D

Put 40000 miles on a used 56 plate 520d touring taking it up to 150k Averaged 48mpg... Could get 55 being very careful... Very comfy once I ditched the run flat tyres. I had the common rear suspension issue. The pump that pressurises the rear air suspension gets blocked and eventually burns out. Expect a bill for around a grand if they replace the pump and air bags at the same time. Changed to a newer A4 but do miss the Beemer... Would definitely recommend it

Cheers gents. The big diesel is looking to be the one, current car is diesel so that was what I first looked at.
Anyone driven/owned the bigger engined petrol ones? There's some good prices comparing them for what looks like a lot of car, though I'm new to BMW so :?

C-J what were the dealers like for customer service? Did you have yours serviced by them?

The dealers are great, Haliwell Jones are awesome but they ain't cheap. Always best to find a local BMW Specialist there cheaper and just as good

Yep I had mine main dealer serviced.. No problems at all and not crazy expensive... My suspension collapsed while I was working down south and it was fixed within 3 days. They also messed up the price. Quoted me only for parts initially, and honoured the quote when I went to pay. Computer error meant I got the labour for free. Saved 700 quid!! You might pay more for main dealer labour but the back up is always better.

535d all the way. Most elegant looking car, imho, they have built in years. After an estate one myself early next year.
