Centre stand.

Post by finchey63 » 08 Sep 2015, 14:13

I have a cbr600f with a centre stand, I,m thinking about taking it off and just having paddock stands,I'm doing it mainly for the looks because personally I prefer the look of the bike without the centre stand. They will be mainly used for cleaning and basic maintenance . Any thoughts on this idea, pros and cons of paddock stands.Or am I just being a dick.

The beauty of thw centre stand is its dead easy to do things like head bearings.
I just put it on the stand then tie the back down to a ground anchor.

Plenty of people do it, as long as you keep the side stand for everyday use then it's not.much different than many other bikes that don't have a centre stand.
Look at an ABBA stand as an alternative to paddock stands though, I have one and it's been used on 5 different bikes with no issues whatsoever

As Lee has stated. It's very handy to have a centre stand. Think carefully before taking it off the bike.

My center stand snapped probably being 25 year old and the weight of the bike but I've found things hard to do without it and it will be getting replaced as soon as I find one. More to the fact there's no rear paddock available.

Just a thought if you do take the stand off have you thought maybe purchase a bike jack??

Thanks Jimmytanko and Smudger but I don't do a lot of maintenance just basic stuff like chain clean and lube and an oil change every 12 months, anything else is a garage job.
So i don't think an abba stand or jack are needed, but thanks anyway.

I would keep the centre stand on. I use it when cleaning the bike so much easier itv than a paddock stand.
Each to their own thou.

I've not had a centre stand on a bike for years and never really missed it. If you regret taking it off, just put it back on. Simples. 8-)

Yep just what I was thinking mate.
I think I'll go for it and if no likely I'll just put it back on.
So now I'm on the lookout for some cheap stands.
If anyone has any going cheap or knows of any just give me a shout.
Cheers. ;)
