Need a SatNav

Post by gingerb » 25 Jun 2015, 19:52

Need a satnav preferably cheap for occasional trips outside my comfort zone but must have headphone socket - any ideas?? I guess it doesn't need to be bike specific cause I won't be using it that much.

I bought a tom tom off ebay for £40 and a handlebar mounted holder.
Dunno if it has a headphone port?
I just use it to refresh my memory of a route.
You will probably need a power outlet for it too as sat navs only tend to last an hour or so when not plugged in.

I you have a phone contract with a decent amount of data use the sat nav on there.. I have an iPhone and found it really easy to navigate using voice commands only through headphones

Get something like co pilot if your gonna use a phone.
Maps are on the phone so doesnt need constant internet connection unlike Google.

I use a good old fashioned map when the need arises. Works every time. But then again I am old! Simples

I had a nokia lumnia which had all uk maps stored internally, which meant it didnt use data to use the sat nav. You could also tell it to ignore motorways etc it came in handy a few times.

Can pick garmin nuvi up for 20 quid on flea bay. If you keep your eyes open you may get a street pilot for 40 or 50. Hard wiring looks easy and the kits about a tenner. Brackets range from a few quid (China) to about 30. All in you can get a hard wired sat nav with bracket and waterproof case for about £60. IMHO anyway.
