Me and my Bro planning a 24 hr ride to Scotland and back, the idea is to set off early doors sat morning, stop at a distillery and have a nosey. Ride to a hostel, park up, tea out, few beverages back to hostel ride back Sunday, any one done something similar, just after advice for some great roads etc, cheers all [OK HAND SIGN]

Do the route I did.
Only I took three nights!

Up to oban via glencoe, visit the distillery, spot of lunch, then plod up to inverness. Bed there.
Then down through cairngorms past edinburgh and on home.

You will be fucked tho!

its a whole days ride to inverness and that will be along day , then its just a case of turning rounding and coming back ! pretty pointless .

Why not make a weekend of it and explore abit more ? go friday stop , fri and sat night , head back sunday …you will see a whole lot more .

The roads in the Highlands are fantastic when the when is kind .

Spot on, it's far too good up there to rush and miss the scenery

more realistic is a ride up to oban.
stay there.
ride over to skye and come home.

still a long day...

Did an overnighter in March. Stayed in Moffat and never used a motorway from Clitheroe to Clitheroe.
2 proper days riding taking in:-
The Manor Café.
Barnard Castle.
Kielder Water
Moffat
Hartside Café
Hawes
Would not want to try and go further north on a single overnighter without using motorways and then what's the point?
0900-1700 & 1000-1800 is plenty on consecutive days. You gotta have time to freshen up hit the bar and have some banter over the days events.

I'd do it over 3 days, possibly with a rest day in the middle. It's a long journey even on motorways, but they're boring so you'll want to be on A and B roads, which although much nicer will make the journey even longer still. Additionally, having a rest day on Day 2 means you can get absolutely w*nkered on the evening of Day 1 once you've arrived and set up camp :D

I'd set off just before dawn. It's beautiful riding through the sunrise, plus if you schedule it well you can stop for your first brew stop and watch the sunrise :)

Don't forget to make sure you have breakdown cover (just in case).
