Probably a tuono but the mk 1 factory in black ( fucking gorgeous IMO) or tl 1000 maybe an sp 1/2 but then again a super duke 990 ticks the boxes as well, good job I can only fit one bike in the shed or this thread could get me in some serious trouble lol
Re: What would you buy?
tough one this, 5k buys a hell of a lot of bike. either a pristine nice last of the analogue bikes like a blade or R1 of that era, or even a modern bike.
Personally for me i am stuck in the dark ages and while i know just how good and fast modern bikes are - they just don't really blow my skirt up any more.
I have said it before and will say it again, if i had to flog all my bikes and keep one for life as a "do it all" bike - it would without doubt be my NC30.
No other bike i own or have owned or ridden has made me smile and enjoy riding as much. Sure many are much faster but that's not the point for me, any one can pin a throttle back and see huge numbers. I personally enjoy being the under dog.
So for me, my answer would be a classic something like either a nice NC30, perhaps a late CR250 or even an up and coming classic like a 636 B1H
None of these will lose money and each will be great fun to ride.

I think I'd get an old DR350 or XR400 and go round Spain and Portugal via little back roads and trails until the £5000 ran out.

I wish I still had my NC30. Selling that and the tuono was hard.CRM wrote:tough one this, 5k buys a hell of a lot of bike. either a pristine nice last of the analogue bikes like a blade or R1 of that era, or even a modern bike.

Re: What would you buy?
Some interesting answers.
Anyone wanting to go touring on an xr400 / 600 is a masochist.
I made the mistake of going to france on a supermoto.
I realised it was a mistake just south of warrington.
I love twins but also want a decent riding position. That pretty much rules out the rsv.
Love naked bikes but after a while the lack of wind protection can become a chore.
So i want a bike with plenty of torque, a decent comfortable riding position and a fairing this time.
So its the zzr1400 for me too.
The 08 on bikes which had some updates to sort earlier issues on the 06-07 machines are bang on the budget and its a hell of a lot of bike for the money.

Ones got a paintjob, but is MOT'd and very well oiled it goes well and its a good runner. £2500
The other is in bits, complete but a project. all the bodywork was pretty beat, but without a bodykit stands me at £900
