Rac important.

Post by Fronkey » 02 Oct 2016, 20:40

Ok so Friday on the way to Assen for the bsb i came off my bike. Broke the gear leaver and clutch. No others involved just one of those things.

So I rang the rac who said they can't collect as ive been in an RTA.

They wanted nearly 400 quid to take me home.

I think that was discussing. yea you can say well you should have accident recovery but most normal people don't tend to.

If you drop your bike at a petrol station or on some gravel at a junction. The rac wont help you.

Well i never knew that.
Suppose you can just get your insurance to wend someone if you are fully comp, but if you arent going to claim then you probably wouldnt want to?
Hmmm.

I am sure the AA do. I will dig out the literature.

States on the AA website. You only are not covered for accident damage where the emergency services have been involved.

At least they recognised you. When I broke down late at night on the bike some 30 miles from home a couple of months ago I called the RAC who said they had no record of me being a member and left me by the roadside as I wasn't prepared to pay several hundred quid for on-the-spot membership. Suffice to say when I did eventually manage to get home a few hours later I checked and found my RAC membership payment and receipt, sent a formal letter of complaint and they've been "investigating" it now for a couple of months with no proper response. Frikkin useless. Least you're ok though pal. Small mercies etc.

I dumped the RAC back in the eighties when they failed me on tour in Italy. Jim, they have been investigating that 30 years. The AA aren't cheap, but do deliver and have supported me through a legal claim against a third party. Plenty of room for improvement, but not awful.

My wife skidded off the road and landed in a ditch in her car on a snowy morning the AA won't come to her aid and left her stranded, five minutes later another car did exactly the same thing and hit my wife's car fortunately nobody was hurt
