I was really unsure about getting a BMW shaft drive, but i voiced my concerns to Kev (Cabernet) and he put all my worries to rest, gave BMW a big vote of confidence and assured me they last forever. I'm glad i listened as I love my Beemer!

I've never had a shaft mechanical issue with any of them.

In fact of the approx 100,000 I've done on various beemers,
What is the highest milage BMW you have owned and what is the most miles you have put on any one bike?

Even Though that is aimed at Chas………I can vouch for doing 35,000 on a K13s absolutely trouble free. A twin cam RT ( 2009) model think it was had 16,000 on win given to me, I put another 25,000 on that ,which included a ride to Portimao in three days , Again absolulte trouble free.

I know one guy with a GS1200 early model that has 112,000 miles on it , uses every day , Serviced on schedule and only required some blown headlight bulbs and a battery.

On the down side i had a 2014 RT (water-cooled) did 450 miles on it !!!! then it was taken away for 3 months while they put a new suspension on it !
A guy i was chatting to at Santander one day had a K13s with 9000 mles on and was on his third gearbox!!!

With the early GS1200, well it's grwat to hear of a good one.
My own R850R I had from new, I spotted a gear box oil weep into the clutch housing and had it repaired under warranty. I also had a bevel box rebuild under warranty on a seperate occasion. I sold it at 45,000.
Most of the failures I know of occur between 40,000 tp 70,000 miles in 1100 & 1150 R series machines.
I have ridden 3 VX800 to around 90,000 miles each and a Deauville to 180,000 miles.
I have seen couriers on BMW, but they learn fast.
I have seen two R series in Mr Pigs knackered with gear boxes, one in MWMotorcycles and two in Adventure Bike Wharehouse including PCH1's.
Oh and Guzzi with single sided swing arms are no better or worse IMHO.

My 2nd K12s.. Took it from 10,000 miles to 38,000... That's when it had the injector fault. They lent me a GS while they fixed it, but I never went to pick it up. Did a trade in against the GS.

Would you like to measure my penis aswell...????
