Auto electrician in the house ?

Post by CRM » 03 Nov 2015, 21:54

I want a really nice custom loom making for this CR250
Nothing complicated really,
Ignition switch (basic on / off) or even a hidden master switch
front brake light switch banjo (fitted)
Rear brake light switch banjo (fitted)
power for the dash
LED brake light (fitted)
all to run from the airbox area so i can eitther attach a nice small battery or tap into the existing total loss gene power.

either way the LEDs require next to nothing, same for the dash LED back light.

any takers who know what they are doing ?

Your rear brake switch is prob the easiest one from a road bike should be easy to mount I beleave you would need a new lever for front brake as it would be easy enough to tap and dye a hole to accept a switch bit your current lever wouldn't close the circuit maybe upgrade the front lever and carrier to a enduro one that already has the switch on carrier .. You can get finger print starter switch now or use remote start to have no switch at all just a thought

The pressure banjo's are fitted and just need wiring.
I prob will end up doing it myself, its a pretty simple loom really.
put the LED brake light to a fused 1amp live and run each banjo to the brake light's earth
take power from the power source directly for the dash light.

now if running from the bikes own capacitor / gene capacity, then no need for any kind of switch. lights only work when it's running. however with a small LI ion battery stuffed in the airbox, then i would be able to run brake lights on the road for a short period based on total loss. fine for MOT and short road blasts (it wont get much road use as 7l of premix don't go very far lol)

I just fancied a pro to do a tidy transportable loom (2 bikes the same)

Nah the CR is pretty unique and being a competition machine, extra power wasn't really on the menu - however the OE gene can cope with a bit, it is fine to power the brake light and backlight for the speedo

I wired it roughly tonight and happy days it works, need to tidy it significantly though

Can you not run all the + and - to underneath the tank the solder them into one like Honda used to do on most of there bikes it was also one of there flaws when it corroded as you lost more than one function

not sure what you mean, but as said, the OE generator was changed on the post 1999 bikes because the powervalve was electrical, as such the gene was beefed up a little to cope with the demands from that
as such there is enough to cope with the LED brake light
i tapped into the power from the generator prior to the Capacitor.

works fine.

not enough for any head lamps though - but it is a daytime only MOT required so lights not needed

Was this thinking like the cb of the 99's Honda ran a single + and - to inside the head light then connected multiple wires to it to feed clocks lights indicators etc this would minamise a loom so you could hide a lot of the wiring

Or custom something like this into headlight http://www.eachbuyer.com/15w-cree-xml-t ... oC9h_w_wcB" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
