I have a small led gear display on my 125. I have been, (of late), just going by feel, along the lines of what Rumpy said. But I do use it to be sure occasionally. However it's nice to know there are more seasoned riders who still have the gear display in front of them and still use it also. :)

I take Lee's point and to have a 2" high "6" makes for a smoother ride and takes less mental attention than doing a speed to rev comparison, thus allowing.more focus on riding hazards.
