Changing The Sprockets On A Sportsbike

Post by Mike » 07 Apr 2015, 18:05

Well as the title says thinking about changing the sprockets on my bike -1 on front & +1 on rear... Anyone had ago at this?, does it make much difference?.
I believe it gives you faster acceleration and you lose top end (who needs 180mph).
I would rather accelerate quicker on track and lose top end + I think i will need it to keep up with Stu P

I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong) it's bike dependant mine zx6 b1 I went -1 on the front and yes it gives u more acceleration but on mine it stole a few mph at 60+ so speedo read 70 bike speed 65 ish etc. so depends what the bike use is for and tbh u won't notice -1 untill u go back to standard

Do it it helps a lot with acceleration, -1 on the front is more or less +3 on the rear
As marco says your speedo will be over reading unless it's a abs bike and it uses wheel speed sensor to give your speedo reading , personally I'd just go -1 at first and see how you like it

You can get a speedo healer if you are bothered about the speed overreading. personally I think its a good thing to be going slower than the speedo says you are..

Unless it says you are doing 110 when you get flashed when your going 105.. at that point it wont make a blind bit of difference lol

Also before you go changing both ends check that you dont end up with an even ratio between the sprockets.
