had a problem with my reg/rec twice ( brand new one also failed after a year), buy a honda one, its not hard to get it to fit, can use the original loom connector from your old reg/rec, there's loads of info on SV forums.
Also, for a battery, if your not already using one, get a gel one, got one in mine, they're cheap enough and supposed to be way better
