Carb

Post by Supermoto tard » 27 Feb 2017, 19:40

Hi people. I've just brought a bike and the carb definitely needs cleaning. Now I love riding bikes and taking care of them but I'm not good with stuff like that. How hard is it to clean a carb

Cleaning the carb is not difficult, it is the set-up that is the trick bit.

As you dismantle it, be sure to take lot of pictures and count how many turns the adjusting screws are from fully in, before removal so you can reset them afterwards. Just leave yourself a trail of bread crumbs so you can re-assemble it as it was, only clean, that way it "should" run after and only require a minor tweak.

Dis-assemble on an old sheet so that anything you drop does not bounce away. Be careful of rubber diaphragms. They can be expensive to replace. Hold them up to the light and check for pin holes. Ethanol in modern petrol is a killer of many rubber components making them perish. Expect to have to replace some of them.
