Stain from hell

Post by manxgraham » 14 Feb 2016, 15:10

Anyone got an idea of how to remove a stain from hell on my downpipes?
I use a damp blue microfiber cloth to wipe the bugs off my visor and tuck it behind my clocks when riding. Recently it fell down through the fairing and came to rest on my downpipes, where it melted and has left a stain from hell which I can't remove. I tried WD40, petrol, white spirit and hammerite thinners so far.....but non of them will act as a solvent to remove it. The cloth was made up of 80% Polyester and 20% Polyamid.....for the technically minded. Any ideas on what may remove it?

I would try getting the pipes red hot see if the stain burns off and the colour comes back or get new ones and sell yours

The pipes are titanium and have a patch of melted plastic cloth on them. I was hoping to find a solvent to wipe it off with, but so far nothing I have tried will remove it.

Can you not get down pipes nice and hot so the plastic gets soft again and then try wiping with a cloth, and soapy water
Becareful what you are using as I'm sure there are certain chemicals that will damage titanium

Quill exhausts recommend using Mr muscle window cleaner with added vinegar after being wiped down with thinners. Tried it loads and it works a treat might be worth a try
