Advice for standing bike

Post by Adam » 12 Sep 2015, 15:26

Hi,

My bike has been stood for 4 months without being fired up. I've borrowed a trickle charger to charge the battery up and is there anything else I need to look at? Will the fuel of gone off or lines get clogged?

It's an Suzuki SV650 2007, I've got no clue about mechanical stuff so any advice would be appreciated!

4 months on a bike that young shouldn't really be a problem to be honest.

I would personally move the bike about just to check the tyres haven't gained a flat spot and i'd drain most of the fuel and add fresh high octane but other than that you should be fine.

Be sure to let the bike warm up fully before its ridden, check the clutch works as they can sometimes stick together with lack of use, warm/hot oil is much thinner, just keep operating the clutch and feel for how it used to be.

Yeah, charge the battery, pump the tyres up, brush an dust off you forks about the seals, go through your POWDER checks and warm it up slowly until the fans cut in. Then go for a gentle run on easy straight roads to warm your tyres through. That will ease the flat spot off.

Should be fine.
I wouldnt bother draining fuel etc.
Just top up with fresh.

Has it been stood outside or in a garage?
If its been inside then id just give it a little ride to check all is ok.
Tyres may need a bit of air.
Chain may need a lube.

If its been outside then id be checking things like brakes etc too.

Wake up at 5 am

Start bike at 5.15 on camp site

Look around for a bit spend 5 minutes yawning

Warn hands on engine casing as it slowly getting warmer

5.30 am ride very slowly through camp so not to wake people up

Happy bike happy rider lol

Thanks all, not as bad as one would of thought. Trickle charger i borrowed was fucked, so it never worked. Going to invest in one myself as will always come in the future.

Is correct, a sitting bike does not warm up evenly.
